Gov. Abbott bets beer, BBQ on Texas victory over Oklahoma
The governors of both states are getting in on the action with a friendly wager for the Texas vs. Oklahoma game.
Gov. Greg Abbott is putting some Texas bragging rights — and barbecue — on the line ahead of one of college football's biggest rivalries.
The No. 1-ranked Texas Longhorns are set to face the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, Oct. 10, in the latest chapter of the storied Red River Rivalry, and the governors of both states are getting in on the action with a friendly wager.
"@GovStitt, I bet you a case of Lone Star Beer and Railhead BBQ the Longhorns will PREVAIL tomorrow on the field. Hook 'em!" Abbott wrote on X.
The challenge came after Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt predicted the Sooners would pull off an upset against the top-ranked Longhorns.
"It's Red River Rivalry time! I've got a feeling our Sooners are going to pull off the upset!" Stitt wrote on X, challenging Abbott to send Texas barbecue north of the Red River if Oklahoma wins.
Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m. MT/ 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 10.
