This afternoon, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) officially broke its silence on the controversy surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo.

In a statement published by the Portuguese newspaper 'A Bola', the FPF confirmed the Portuguese legend's provisional suspension. Disciplinary proceedings have also been opened against him. The exact length of his ban has yet to be determined.

As a reminder, Cristiano Ronaldo himself admitted in his lengthy statement on Wednesday evening that he should be punished for leaving the Seleção's training camp without permission. In doing so, he had violated the FPF's statutes.

So, for now, it is officially confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo has been provisionally suspended by the FPF. A disciplinary committee will now decide the final length of the ban. According to the Portuguese newspaper 'A Bola', Ronaldo faces a ban of up to six months and a hefty fine.
