The San Antonio Spurs host the Dallas Mavericks at Frost Back Center on Wednesday, and as one would expect, Victor Wembanyama has been the star of the show thus far. The Mavericks found themselves trailing by 17 points at the start of the second half, with the Spurs leading the game 68-51.
And well, Wemby scored a total of 29 points in the first quarter, producing a stunning coast-to-coast dunk with seconds left on the clock, per a post on X by ClutchPoints. With the score poised at 30-26, Wemby received the ball after Kyrie Irving pushed a rebound to the edge of the three-point line, which initially allowed Wembanyama to drive forward.
He initially produced a behind-the-back dribble to get past the first Dallas defender. Wemby then drove past two players, as Cooper Flagg was found wanting on defence . Flagg expected a pass inside, which allowed Wemby to drive to the paint and bank home the dunk.
The reigning Defensive Player of the Year looked up in celebration before rushing back on defence. The Mavericks have struggled to keep up with the French phenom, whose 29 points came off 7-12 shooting despite the fact that he had missed all four of his three-point attempts in the first half.
He was also dominant on the paint, grabbing a whopping 16 rebounds in the first half alone in what was a defensive masterclass. His statline also comprised two assists, three steals, and a stunning six blocks.
The only other Spurs player who scored in double-digits in the first half was Dylan Harper, who had 13 points on 5-7 shooting. Flagg, on the other hand, has had a game to forget thus far, and could only manage four points in two quarters off 1-11 shooting.
The Mavericks have instead relied on Kyrie Irving, who had 17 points and four assists. PJ Washington added another 13 points alongside four rebounds, but the night has truly belonged to the Spurs' main man.
