Hawkeye Football: Updated Game Line, Weather Update for Northern Illinois-Iowa

It’s going to be a scorcher in Kinnick on Saturday.

The sights. The sounds. The game. The…heat?

Yeah, it's gonna be a hot one Saturday in Kinnick Stadium as Iowa takes on the lowly Huskies. I pull up weather.com and the first thing I see is "Extreme Heat Warning" for Iowa City. That's until Saturday at 7:00 p.m. So it's going to be hot all day in Iowa City. Get that sunscreen on, drink as much water as you can, and find as much shade as you can. Ugh. I'm excited football is back. It took awhile, but turning on games last night (LOL Rutgers) immediately had me back in. But the heat…no. No thank you.

Temperature at kickoff is expected to be near 90 degrees. There will be a light wind out of the north/northeast at 6-8 miles per hour. Hot, with little air movement. Just what the doctor ordered after you've had 15 Busch Lites. Be careful out there, Hawks…

This is the perfect game to wet your beak going into the season. Bad opponent – Nothern Illinois is BAD bad, you guys – home game, good offensive line, looks like a potentially potent offense with weapons everywhere…this is a great opener. This is a great opener for the two new quarterbacks Kirk Ferentz is breaking in, too. Just no lollypop throws like I saw in Piscataway last night, please.

Iowa enters as a 31.5-point favorite on FanDuel and that doesn't seem like a crazy line. Even with no clear-cut starter at quarterback between Jeremy Hecklinski and Hank Brown, it won't matter on Saturday. Get them reps, get them comfortable, see if someone separates in this race so we're not juggling things going into Cy-Hawk, and get out without any serious injuries. Hawks to cover tomorrow.
