At Instituto Leão do Mar launch penultimate day, Santos FC frees wildlife

Santos FC took part, together with the Instituto Leão do Mar, in the release of wild animals at the Fazenda do Carmo Municipal Natural Park, the first fully protected conservation unit in the city of São Paulo, inaugurated in 2003. Along with the action carried out this Saturday (26), an ecological trail walk was held with scouts, Santos FC board members, youth academy athletes, organized supporters, and the mascots Baleinha and Leo.

The preservation area, located in the East Zone of São Paulo, is essential for the entire municipality, serving as a foundation for water production, thermal comfort, high-quality oxygen, the conservation of fauna and flora, and encouragement for scientific research and environmental education across a total of 573 hectares.

"The city of São Paulo could not be left out of the Institute's actions, because it is where we have our largest concentration of the Club's supporters and because of the full significance of the state capital before Brazil and the world. This is another very positive event, and it helps strengthen the Instituto Leão do Mar brand through practical actions," commented Ricardo Novaes, vice president of the Instituto Leão do Mar.

The rehabilitation of wild animals is carried out at the Wild Animal Management and Conservation Center, CeMaCAS. After rehabilitation, the release is conducted by the Wild Fauna Division in São Paulo's fully protected conservation units.

"The animals we released today have already gone through quarantine and a series of blood tests to check for any kind of pathology. If there was any, it was treated, and then they were trained for rehabilitation," commented Thiago de Andrade, public facility manager and the person responsible for the site.

The site is open to the public for visits from Tuesday to Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
