Capitals Unveil Specialty Uniforms Celebrating America's 250th Anniversary in New Video

The Washington Capitals are celebrating the United States' semiquincentennial with a specialty jersey.

The Caps shared on Wednesday a first look at the jersey, signed versions of which will be auctioned to benefit a nonprofit supporting children in military families.

Trades That Could Happen Before Training Camp

The jersey was designed by two veterans and features six stars on the front in representation of the United States' six military branches, according to the team.

The flag inside the eagle was "inspired by Revolutionary-era printmaking traditions," while the gold accents are an homage to "military ceremonial uniforms," the team reported.

The jersey features American landmarks including the silhouette of the Capitol Building in front of the crest, the Washington Monument on the right shoulder patch and the Statue of Liberty's torch on the left shoulder patch.

The patches also feature the phrase "We the People" and the year 1776 in honor of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The auction featuring the jerseys begins Tuesday, Oct. 16 and runs through Thursday, Oct. 15.

Bidding for a specialty jerseys signed by members of the 2026-27 Capitals will begin at $300, while bidding for individual player jerseys will start at $250 each.

This won't be the only specialty jersey the Capitals unveil this season. Fanatics announced last month all 32 NHL franchises are set to debut Hometown Remix looks during the 2026-27 campaign.

Icethetics reported in May the Capitals' look is expected to include the shade of blue used in the team's 1990s "Screaming Eagle" jersey.

The Capitals are preparing to open training camp Sept. 17 before starting the preseason Sept. 20.

Alex Ovechkin is set to open his 22nd NHL season Oct. 2 with a road game against the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes before returning to D.C. for an Oct. 7 home opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
