Colts news: Sauce Gardner hilariously lauds DeForest Buckner's dominance

The Indianapolis Colts entered the win column on Sunday after beating the Houston Texans , 19-17, at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Colts ended their nine-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Spencer Shrader scored the game-winning field goal from 53 yards with 16 seconds left.

DeForest Buckner was also key in the much-needed victory, tallying seven total tackles, including one for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two quarterback hits.

Sauce Gardner was so impressed with Buckner during the game that he stopped doing his job for a bit, as revealed by ESPN's Stephen Holder.

"Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner said he was marveling at DT (defensive tackle) DeForest Buckner's performance on Sunday, so much so, 'I was just looking in the backfield' during some plays. But he quickly admitted, 'As a cornerback, you shouldn't be doing that,'" wrote Holder on X.

It was a candid admission by Gardner, who finally won in the United States after 647 days.

Holder noted that the 25-year-old Gardner has been a pleasure to talk to because of his openness, not to mention his sense of humor.

"People have lots of opinions about Sauce, but I want to say he has been such a professional in his dealings with the media and is so affable and honest. I really, really enjoy talking to him," added Holder.

Gardner and Buckner will continue to be key enforcers as the Colts try to tighten up their defense after allowing an average of 37 points in their first two games. Obviously, limiting the Texans to below 20 points was a step in the right direction.

The Colts will travel to London in Week 4 to face the Washington Commanders .
