‘More of a relief…’ – Olivia Miles reacts to breaking Caitlin Clark’s rookie scoring record

Minnesota Lynx star Olivia Miles broke the rookie scoring record set by Caitlin Clark in 2024 with her incredible campaign in 2026.

Miles was drafted with the No. 2 pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft and has instantly delivered for the Lynx, helping the contending franchise solidify themselves as title favorites this season.

Miles is averaging 19.8 points, 6.0 assists, and 4.7 rebounds this season, and her prolific scoring has led to her shattering Clark's rookie scoring record with two games in hand.

Miles spoke to reporters after her 21-point performance in the Lynx's win over the Connecticut Sun , expressing relief over breaking Clark's record and being able to put it in the rearview.

"It was more of a relief. Those things tend to loom over your head."

"It's special, but it means we're more so working well as a team. I have great teammates around me, great vets who allow me to be me out there. It wouldn't be possible without one, a coach that believes in you and then two, having teammates that have my back. So it's really special to obviously be able to accomplish that with such a great team and on a win as well."

Clark averaged 19.2 points (769 total points) as a rookie in 40 games, with Miles surpassing her in her 40th game of the season, ensuring nobody can claim she broke it because of having extra games available.

Miles and Clark will face off in the final two games of the season, as the Lynx and Fever end the regular season with two games against each other.

Clark's Fever need both wins to ensure they can remain in the fight for a top-four seed and avoid potentially falling to No. 8 in the standings.

The Lynx need one win to secure their status as the No. 1 seed for the 2026 WNBA Playoffs, so they will be motivated to eke out at least one result over their next two games, which will pit Clark and Miles against each other.
