Man United injury woes worsen as two more withdraw from international duty

Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has pulled out of Slovenia's squad as the club's injury woes compounded on a day of four international withdrawals.

The 23-year-old sat out Sunday's 1-1 draw at Fulham with a shin problem sustained in the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton last week.

As a result he will now not feature in two Nations League matches against Scotland , plus other games against North Macedonia and Switzerland .

" Manchester United can confirm that Benjamin Sesko has withdrawn from the Slovenia squad ahead of the upcoming three-week international break," said a United statement.

"Benjamin will undergo tests this week before defining his individual recovery plan."

Sesko later posted a statement on Instagram stating that he will commit himself to recovering from his shin issue.

"I am very sorry that I will have to miss the next matches of the national team," Sesko wrote.

"I have always played for Slovenia and will always play with heart and pride. The most important thing now is to fully dedicate myself to recovery.

"I am already working on getting back on the field as soon as possible and helping the national team and the club again.

"I believe in our boys, and I am sure that they will show the team spirit that has always adorned us this time.

"I can't wait to be able to wear the jersey with the national emblem again and, until then, I will be Slovenia's biggest fan."

Sesko became the fourth United player to withdraw from international duty on Monday, with goalkeeper Karl Darlow similarly leaving the Wales camp despite being on the bench for the Fulham game.

Darlow's exit was one third of the misery experienced by Craig Bellamy 's side, with Leeds star Harry Wilson forced out due to a quad injury, while Wrexham striker Nathan Broadhead has also been sidelined.

Sesko and Darlow join Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo on the early casualty list this international break, after the pair were among a five-man contingent to withdraw from the England squad .

Michael Carrick confirmed Rashford picked up an "issue" at Craven Cottage, with the forward substituted while appearing to be struggling with his hip – which was a persistent issue over the summer.

Midfielder Mainoo, who travelled to this summer's World Cup but did not play a single minute of the tournament under Tuchel, was also substituted during the closing stages of the draw.
