“I always dreamed”: Man United hero Matheus Cunha explains joy of impressing on biggest of stages

Matheus Cunha had a busy final ten minutes on Tuesday night.

Manchester United dramatically came from 0–2 down to win 3–2 against AS Roma at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian Cunha was the architect, scoring in the 83rd minute to equalise after a defensive mix-up.

His main moment came in the 86th minute, however, when he finished a sweeping move and jumped into the crowd to celebrate.

His evening was not over, as in added time he was sent off for a second yellow offence after pressing too vigorously and taking down the Roma defender.

After his heroics, Cunha spoke to American television show CBS Sports (via The Sun ).

The attacker revealed his feelings in the interview by explaining, "good evening, oh, I'm more anxious to do this interview than play the game, honestly!"

Reflecting on his impact on the match, he claimed, "what a magic day. Of course, apart from the red card… I always dreamed of being a part of something unbelievable. Coming here and having to come back in this very hard moment of the season."

Commenting on the tough situation that the club currently finds itself in, he stated, "I think everything, when we tried to do it, being part of Manchester United is very hard because in these kinds of moments in the season, we know we always have these kinds of comparisons with the past. We need to have these kinds of games like today, and then we'll pass the hard moment. But today was a blessed day for me."

Cunha then asserted his ambition for himself and the role he envisions for himself in the team.

He replied, "being part of this, I have a responsibility. I always talk inside about that – I need to be this kind of guy – to have the responsibility in the hard moments and the good moments. I always need to show up and be there for nights like today."

Cunha will next be in action for the club on Sunday evening at 16:30 at Old Trafford versus Aston Villa before the international break.
