Michael Porter Jr. Drops A Bold 50-Win Call For The Nets

The Brooklyn Nets are heading into the season with plenty of uncertainty around them. That has not stopped Michael Porter Jr. from setting a very different bar for what this team can accomplish.

Porter sees a roster that has more to offer than last season's young group. He also believes the right chemistry could open up a much bigger role for everyone involved, especially with Julius Randle creating opportunities with the ball.

Porter explained to streamer N3on why he likes the fit between himself and Randle. The idea is fairly simple, but it could give Brooklyn another way to create clean looks without forcing Porter to do everything himself.

"(Randle) can draw a double team. He can get downhill, draw a double team, and then swing it to me; I can shoot the 3," Porter said . "If we can get that chemistry right, all of our young guys from last year got so much better, bro."

That chemistry would give the Nets a direct inside-out option. Randle can attack the defense and force help, while Porter can stay ready on the perimeter and punish teams that leave him open.

For Porter, the young players are just as important to the equation. He believes they have already taken a major step from last season, which gives him more reason to expect a bigger jump from the team as a whole.

Porter also made it clear that he is not setting a modest target for Brooklyn. When asked whether he believes the Nets can win more than 50 games, he did not hedge.

Porter said he expects the team to surpass outside expectations, then answered yes when directly asked about the 50-win mark. That is a striking projection for a group still trying to establish itself, but Porter believes the pieces fit well enough to make that kind of season possible.

The confidence is built around more than one player. Randle's ability to draw attention, Porter's shooting and the continued growth of Brooklyn's young core form the basis of the belief.

There is still plenty for the Nets to prove once the games begin. For now, Porter is making it clear that he sees a team capable of pushing far beyond the expectations already placed on it.
