Studs and duds from Dolphins' first win of the 2026 season
The Miami Dolphins defeated the New York Jets 28-25 at MetLife Stadium. Here were their best and worst performers from the win.
The Miami Dolphins walked into MetLife Stadium for a Week 7 battle with their AFC East rivals, the New York Jets, on Sunday, and left with a 28-25 win.
This victory was Miami's first of the season and their first under head coach Jeff Hafley, as they got their best offensive performance thus far while the defense could've been better.
As we continue to work through this result, let's hand out some credit and criticism to the Dolphins ' studs and duds from Week 7.
This was Willis' best game with the Dolphins, as he completed 14-of-21 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns. He also used his legs well, running for an additional 37 yards and another score. Willis needs to be decisive going forward, and if he can do that, this won't be Miami's only win.
There were several missed assignments on Sunday throughout the game, including some 52- and 60-yard hookups between Geno Smith and Omar Cooper Jr. as well as a 41-yard completion to Isaiah Davis that led to a Jets touchdown late in the fourth quarter. On top of those issues, Miami continues to get dominated by tight ends. Mason Taylor, son of Dolphins legend Jason Taylor, caught five passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught the two-point attempt that made it a three-point game late.
When De'Von Achane suffered a torn ACL earlier this year, it was clear Miami needed someone to separate themselves in the backfield, and Gordon has done just that. On Sunday, he rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on 4.1 yards per attempt. He's now up to 339 yards and four touchdowns on 4.7 yards per carry this year, which are career highs in all three stats.
While Gordon has stepped up, Wright hasn't been as good as a runner. With all of the success that Gordon found against the Jets, they shut Wright down, as he finished with just eight yards on six carries. He provides something in the return game when he fields the ball cleanly, but he's been a net negative as a runner this season.
Douglas missed the last three games with an ankle injury before returning against the Jets on Sunday, and he had a great game, catching two of his three targets for 70 yards and two touchdowns. The offense can have a different gear when he's on the field, so it's good for him to be back out there.
On National Tight End Day, Dulcich caught five passes for 86 yards, which is arguably his best performance since joining the Dolphins last season.
