The Winnipeg Jets reportedly have a deadline coming up in their ongoing stalemate with discontented star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.

The suspension issued to Hellebuyck for failing to report to training camp is expected to expire next Friday, The Athletic's Chris Johnston and Murat Ates reported Saturday.

Johnston and Ates noted Hellebuyck's "immediate future remains up in the air" because the Jets "have not been offered a trade they deem fair."

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Hellebuyck did not participate in training camp in September but told the Jets before their Oct. 2 season opener he intended to report to the team.

The Jets kept Hellebuyck suspended after that point under a clause in the CBA that allows teams to issue "a disciplinary suspension of reasonable length" to players who miss training camp, according to Friedman.

The suspension will have cost Hellebuyck more than $925,000 in forfeited salary by next Friday, per Johnston and Ates.

Hellebuyck, a three-time Vezina Trophy winner, marked a career-low .895 save percentage last season as the Jets went 35-35-12 and missed the playoffs.

He first announced in late August he had requested a trade from the Jets "several months ago."

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported in mid-September that Hellebuyck had informed the Jets he would not be reporting to camp.

Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff said the following day he wanted to prioritize getting the Hellebuyck trade "right" rather than making a quick deal.

The Edmonton Oilers make sense as a trade suitor for Hellebuyck, although TSN's Pierre LeBrun has said Hellebuyck has no interest in playing for a Canadian team.

Hellebuyck was linked earlier this offseason to the Buffalo Sabres, but Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos reported the Sabres were unwilling to include Zach Benson in a potential deal.

Other teams tied to an interest in Hellebuyck include the Carolina Hurricanes and Los Angeles Kings, per Friedman and Sportsnet's Frank Seravalli .

Hellebuyck has a full no-move clause this season, per PuckPedia , so both he and the Jets would get to weigh in on any potential move.

Whether Hellebuyck is traded by next Friday will determine whether he ultimately considers playing another game in Winnipeg, where the Jets are off to a 4-1-2 start to the 2026-27 season with Stuart Skinner as their primary starter.
