Jayden Limar Adds Key Element to Washington Football's Passing Attack
The seemingly imminent return of veteran RB Jayden Limar could be a major boost for Jedd Fisch's offense.
After suffering mightily from injuries this season, Washington's running back room finally received some good news ahead of the Huskies ' Halloween night matchup against Nebraska. On Thursday, Jedd Fisch announced that he's expecting Oregon transfer Jayden Limar to return to action on Saturday night against the Cornhuskers .
Before the season started, the former Duck was expected to split carries with sophomore Quaid Carr, who was coming off an impressive showing in fall camp. Those expectations quickly took a turn for the worse, however, after both backs suffered serious injuries in the season-opening Apple Cup win. Carr has essentially been ruled out for the rest of the season with a hand injury against Washington State, while Limar suffered an elbow injury in the final moments of the victory.
While the fourth-year has never been a true starter, the 5-foot-10, 210-pounder adds a new dimension to the Husky offense, regardless of which quarterback he'll be lining up next to.
In his three years with the Ducks, Limar proved to be a reliable option in the passing game, totaling 20 catches for 207 yards and a touchdown. With most of the Huskers' defense likely keying in on key receivers Chris Lawson and Dezmen Roebuck, the door is open for the Lake Stevens native to become a factor in Washington's passing attack. If he plays, that is.
With freshman Ansu Sanoe listed as doubtful with a foot strain, the veteran ball carrier's return would be a major boost for an offense decimated by injuries. Now that center Landen Hatchett is out for the season with a head, neck, and spine issue, the presence of an experienced ball carrier with a wide-ranging skill set would go a long way for the Huskies' chances come Saturday.
Down to their final five games of the regular season, Washington's offense was finally able to find an identity two weeks ago against Purdue. As question marks continue to linger at key positions along the offensive side, the return of one of UW's key portal additions would go a long way in helping finish the season on a high note.
