Lakers insider reveals real reason why Wizards' Anthony Davis gained weight after latest comment
Former Los Angeles Lakers NBA champion Anthony Davis revealed that he was having to gain weight to play center during his time with the organization. A Laker...
The Los Angeles Lakers are now in the Luka Doncic era, and the process of it started in early 2025. Doncic was playing with the Dallas Mavericks when the most shocking trade in NBA history went down.
The Lakers made a trade for Doncic that shipped out Anthony Davis.
"The Dallas Mavericks are trading Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick, sources tell ESPN. Three-team deal that includes Utah," ESPN's Shams Charania posted.
This ended Davis' long tenure in LA, one where he played center for most of his career. Davis revealed that he had to gain weight to play center, and it just didn't work out with his body.
"The strength training I was doing because I knew I was playing center, like I'm going against Joel Embiid and Jokic. And I never like I've always played like 250. And that year I had got to like 265 and it was like I didn't like it. It was actually probably like 268 and I didn't like it. I'm like, bro, I can't play like this. I feel heavy. So I tried to cut during the season but when when you trying to do that while you playing this it was tough. And then that's when I went and was like hey man I want another big and all this stuff and you know it just didn't happen whatever," Davis said.
However, Lakers insider Anthony F. Irwin reported that Davis gained weight because he stopped working hard.
"AD didn't gain weight because the Lakers asked him to play center. He gained the weight because he stopped working as hard on keeping the weight off. He then had to play center because he couldn't move his feet quite as well and forgot how to shoot," Irwin posted.
This situation now has another layer to it, as a Lakers insider has called Davis out for not taking care of himself when it matters the most. Davis' tenure with LA did come to a screaming halt.
It seems like behind the scenes, Davis was doing whatever it took to get the Lakers to stop playing him at center. The more this drags on, the messier the relationship between the two seems to get.
