SALISBURY - A race car driver was involved in a crash at Lime Rock Park Friday afternoon, Connecticut State Police said.

Police said the driver was seriously injured while driving in a practice race. A spokesperson for Lime Rock Park said the victim was "stable and conscious" while they were transported for evaluation.

The motorsport racing track has been hosting its 44th annual Historic Festival since Thursday.

The driver did not successfully negotiate a turn during the practice race and crashed into a tire wall, according to police.

"Lime Rock Park's on-site medical and safety personnel responded immediately, and the driver was airlifted as a precautionary measure in accordance with standard track safety protocol," a Lime Rock Park spokesperson said in a statement Friday.

The victim was airlifted to Hartford Hospital, according to officials. Their condition is unknown.
