Floyd Mayweather announces Dec. 19 tune-up against Matty Floyd as prelude to Ryan Garcia title fight

Floyd Mayweather looks to shake the rust off before challenging Ryan Garcia the WBC belt early next year.

I'm losing count of all of the fights Floyd Mayweather has been announced in over the last year, and while none of them have actually happened thus far, the recent talk has been about a potential WBC welterweight title fight against current champion Ryan Garcia .

Garcia has openly called for the fight with Floyd apparently amendable, but Floyd's also no dummy about this sport and business. At age 49 and not having had an actual professional boxing match in about a decade Floyd is not about to just jump straight into the ring against the 28-year-old champion, and has thereby announced he'll be taking on Matty Floyd in a December 19 exhibition bout in Bangkok, which he says will serve as a tune-up to the Garcia fight in February 2027.

In recent memory Floyd has also been announced for fights against Mike Tyson , Mike Zambidis , a Manny Pacquiao rematch, but none of those have taken place and aren't imminent, to say the least. For now, we'll just have to see if this story line actually leads somewhere going forward.
