“They had better ideas” Tarik Muharemovic discusses his exit from Juventus

Tarik Muharemovic is another success story from the Juventus Next Gen team who is now doing well away from the club , despite having been a potential option for their defence.

Juventus has struggled to find space for some of the best products of their Next Gen team in recent seasons. The club sold Muharemovic to Sassuolo in the summer of 2024, while also including a significant sell-on clause in the agreement.

The defender went on to star for Sassuolo in Serie B as they secured instant promotion to Serie A. He then produced an impressive first season for the club in the Italian top flight, further demonstrating his quality at senior level.

Muharemovic reflects on Juventus departure

His form last season led to speculation that Juventus wanted to re-sign him from the black and greens. However, Muharemovic eventually moved to Leeds United in the last transfer window, bringing his time in Italy to an end.

The defender remains grateful for the years he spent developing at Juventus, although he cannot explain why the club never gave him an opportunity in the first team despite his performances and potential.

The Bosnian has now spoken about his time coming through the ranks in Turin, explaining his perspective on his departure and his current situation at Leeds.

Speaking about his time at Juventus, Muharemovic said, as quoted by Calciomercato :

"Huijsen and I leaving Juve? They had better ideas and knew why. Now I'm really happy to be at Leeds and in the Premier League and not somewhere else. My focus is here and I just want to forget those early years. I spent five years in Italy, we all know it's a country specialising in tactics and defence. Tactically, it's the best place to grow."

His journey from the Juventus Next Gen ranks to Sassuolo, followed by a move to Leeds United, represents a significant progression in his career. While Juventus did not ultimately provide him with a first-team opportunity, he has continued to develop and establish himself at senior level.
