Benedictine football's win at Richmond Academy among Week 6 highlights

Week 6 of the high school football season in the Greater Savannah area had a number of plot lines that kept fans entertained on Friday, Sept. 25.

Savannah Country Day got a big-time two-way performance from quarterback Devin Trawick as the Hornets went on the road to edge Bethesda and end the Blazers 15-game win streak.

Here are the scores and highlights of the games involving Savannah area schools on Friday, September 25.

Benedictine went on the road and edged Richmond Academy in a Region 1-5A matchup.

BC lost a fumble in the final minutes, but the Cadet defense buckled down for a stop on a 4th and 6 on their own 35 on a pass breakup by Jon Black.

BC quarterback Omari Burse was 20 of 28 passing for 293 yards and pair of touchdowns and rushed for 74 yards and two scores.

Purdue commit Eron Mallard had 11 receptions for 141 yards and a score and rushed for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Senior Stanley Smart Jr., who has committed to Virginia Tech, ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns.

Richmond Academy quarterback Carson Hand was 16 of 27 passing for 336 yards with three touchdowns and an interception for the Muskateers (4-1).

BC (4-1) will host Evans (3-2) on Friday, Oct. 2, in a Region 1-5 matchup at Memorial Stadium.

Bethesda, the defending SCISA Class 2A state champion, saw its 15-game winning streak come to an end in a back-and-forth battle against visiting Savannah Country Day.

SCD quarterback Devin Trawick was 9 of 17 passing for 238 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions and ran for 41 yards on nine carries. Hornet senior Thomas Holland ran for 99 yards on 23 attempts.

Sophomore receiver Amir Atkinson had four catches for 167 yards and two scores for the Hornets (2-5).

Holland led SCD with 14 tackles at linebacker and Trawick added five tackles with a pair of interceptions ― one returned for a score.

Bethesda's Jordan Turner was 12 of 23 passing for 98 yards with two interceptions and ran for 204 yards and a pair of scores, including an 80-yard touchdown run.

Ka'Mond Young led Bethesda with 14 tackles and a pair of sacks.

Bethesda (3-1) will play at Camden Military (0-4) on Friday, Oct. 2. SCD has a bye before playing at Bulloch Academy (6-1) on Oct. 9.

Host Calvary Day improved to 4-1 on the season with a non-region win over Rockdale County.

Senior quarterback James Mobley IV was 16 of 23 passing for 307 yards and three touchdowns.

Marlon Knight Jr. had five receptions for 83 yards and a score, Ty Pinckney had two catches for 79 yards and a touchdown and Jalen Hicks had a scoring catch. Jonathan Perry had four receptions for 98 yards for the Cavs.

Ca'Den Jones led the Cavs with 85 yards rushing and a score on 15 carries.

Calvary Day is set to play at Metter (0-5) on Friday, Oct. 2.

Host Effingham County's explosive offense was the key as the Rebels beat Bradwell in a Region 1-6A shootout.

Sophomore quarterback Matthew Dillon completed all eight of his passes for 144 yards with scoring strikes to Trayvis Hunter and Isaiah Brown.

The Rebels racked up 408 yards rushing as Jmere Doe-Davis had 205 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries and junior Jordan Mydell rushed for a 209 yards and three scores on 31 carries. It was a career-high yardage total for Mydell, whose previous best was an 83-yard performance in a win over Evans last week.

Senior Jah'barri Felix was 11 of 19 passing for 210 yards with four touchdowns and an interception for Bradwell (3-2).

His classmate, Cameron Keeve, rushed for 135 yards and a score on 11 carries and had three catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. Carlito Savea had four catches for 76 yards and a score and Jacobi Pasley and Tyson Spears also had scoring grabs for the Tigers.

Bradwell Institute is set to play at Brunswick ( ) in a region game on Friday, Oct. 2, while Effingham County (3-2), which is averaging 43 points a game, is set to play at Glynn Academy (2-3).

Richmond Hill lost its first game of the season as the Wildcats were edged on the road by East Coweta in their final non-region matchup of the year.

Wildcat senior DJ Porter rushed for 127 yards and a pair of scores on eight carries and had three catches for 39 yards. CJ Menzie rushed for 93 yards on 19 carries while senior quarterback Gunner Mobley was 12 of 20 passing for 118 yards with an interception, while rushing for 50 yards and a score on 11 carries.

Layton Steigelman had nine tackles and a sack and Jaylon Deal had eight stops to lead the Wildcat defense.

Jax Bowles was 11 of 15 passing for 139 yards and three scoring passes for East Coweta (5-1).

Richmond Hill (5-1) has a bye this week before opening Region 1-7A play on Friday night, Oct. 9, hosting Colquitt County (3-2) with kickoff set for 7 p.m.

South Effingham lost its first game of the season as host Grovetown edged the Mustangs in a Region 1-6A matchup.

Khyran White ran for 88 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries, while quarterback Liam Coburn was 10 of 16 passing for for 107 yards, with a touchdown pass to Landyn White.

Sophomore Cole McMurry had 13 tackles for the Mustangs (4-1), who are set to host Lakeside (0-5) in another Region 1-6A matchup on Friday, Oct. 2.

Senior Torean Wilson was 4 of 6 passing for 120 yards and a score and rushed for 51 yards on two carries as Jenkins rolled to a Region 1-5A win over Groves.

Jayden Hooper had three catches for 103 yards and a score as Jenkins improved to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in Region 1-5A play.

Jaylon Elliott, Tasean Rhodes, Tyler Small and Printess McMullen added scoring runs for Jenkins, which is set to play at Wayne County (1-4) on Friday, Oct. 2.

Host Liberty County beat New Hampstead in a Region 3-4A matchup on Friday night.

The Panthers were led by senior Noel Best, who rushed for 143 yards and three scores on 25 carries.

Jaeir Roberts was 5 of 8 passing for 80 yards and rushed for 21 yards and a score.

Senior Justin Hurd had eight tackles for Liberty County (2-3, 1-0), which is set to face Windsor Forest (3-1) on Friday, Oct. 2.

Beach beat Islands on Friday night in a Region 3-3A matchup.

Bulldog quarterback Jayvion Williams threw for 305 yards with four scoring passes.

Willie Mayes Jr. had a pair of touchdown catches and ran for another score.

Jacob Price and Marcus West added touchdown receptions for Beach.

Islands junior Nathan Tulloch rushed for 158 yards and a score on 19 carries and his classmate Parker Woods picked up 89 yards on 12 attempts.

Michael Cooler rushed for 56 yards and a pair of scores on eight carries for the Sharks.

Mason McLaughlin was 2 of 5 passing for 50 yards with a 30-yard scoring pass to Xavier Hughes, and rushed for 18 yards and a touchdown.

Islands (3-2, 0-2) is set to host Tattnall County (2-3) on Friday, Oct. 2. Beach (2-3, 1-1) is at Pierce County (4-1) on Friday, Oct. 2.Bryan County at Warren County

Host St. Andrew's fell to 1-4 on the season with a loss to Augusta Prep Friday.

Quarterback Pat Jackson was 4 of 9 passing for 102 yards with a touchdown pass to DJ Prosser. Jackson also ran for 41 yards and led the Lion defense with 21 tackles.

St. Andrew's will host Piedmont Academy (1-4) on Friday, Oct. 2.
