Former 76ers GM gives fans reason to be happy even when LeBron James, Joel Embiid ‘are out’

Former Sixers general manager Billy King explains that fans have something to look forward to even when their new superstar core misses time.

The Philadelphia 76ers have put together an incredible core. With Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey staying on the roster, the franchise has managed to add Jaylen Brown and LeBron James .

With a starting five that includes these four names, an NBA championship has become the expectation. However, there have been concerns about their ability to play many games together.

And now a former franchise executive has weighed in on the matter, discussing how fans won't be left high and dry even if the superstars can't play.

Billy King claims the Sixers' younger stars and bench can win games without Joel Embiid and LeBron James

The Philadelphia 76ers roster outside of the four stars and rookie sensation VJ Edgecombe has some interesting names. The team has added role players like Dean Wade , Kentavious Caldwell-Pope , and Anfernee Simons , among others.

That is not bad depth at all. They have physicality, shooting, and championship experience. Former franchise GM Billy King pointed this out when talking about the team recently.

"What they've done, is they've added some good bench pieces, which they never had here" King said about the Sixers. "The starting guys have been great but they didn't have enough depth.

"But they've added some good, young bench players. So when those guys are out… Say Joel and LeBron are out, you've still got a squad with Jaylen, VJ, Maxey, and the bench pieces they have added.

"So I think that team will have a chance to really continue to win when those guys are out."

King did say that the superstars would have to ultimately be healthy if the Sixers are to win. But his point about the bench situation is valid. If the 76ers have any two of their Big 4 on the court with the rest of the roster, they will still be in good shape against anyone.
