Jets got splash plays from 2 rookies on offense in Week 1

The New York Jets used two of three first-round picks in the 2026 NFL draft on the offensive side of the ball. They added tight end Kenyon Sadiq and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. to Geno Smith 's supporting cast with top-32 picks.

Cooper was lauded for his run-after-catch ability throughout the predraft process. Those capabilities immediately popped in Week 1 .

On a key 3rd-and-9 on the Jets' opening possession, Cooper caught a simple pass from Smith underneath and turned it into a 30-yard gain to the Titans ' four-yard line.

Two plays later, another rookie would capitalize.

After a one-yard Breece Hall run, Sadiq came in motion from the right side and took a handoff from Smith.

He easily beat former Jets defensive end Jermaine Johnson II around the edge to the end zone on a misdirection play. Both Cooper and Sadiq made huge impacts on the first possession of the season.

The early returns on both Sadiq and Cooper were positive. They didn't make a four-quarter impact, but their splash plays on the opening possession ensured the Jets started fast by scoring seven points.
