Florida just outside top 5 in USAT's Week 4 college football re-rank

Florida football made a statement in Week 4 with a 52-28 victory over Ole Miss in the Swamp, improving to 4-0 for the first time since 2019.

The Gators tied the program record for most points scored against an AP Poll top-five team set in their 1997 Sugar Bowl victory over FSU for the national championship, while notching their first win against a top-five opponent since beating Georgia in 2020, snapping a 12-game losing streak.

Suffice it to say, the future looks bright for the Orange and Blue after the first four games of the Jon Sumrall era.

Following college football's fourth official week of play, USA TODAY Sports writer Paul Myerberg released his re-rank of all 138 FBS teams . In it, Florida leapt 11 spots and is now ranked just outside the top 5 at No. 6 — between No. 5 Ohio State and No. 7 Alabama.

Meanwhile, the Gators are ranked eighth in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 — their highest ranking in both polls since 2021.

The SEC still has eight schools in USA TODAY Sports' re-rank top 25 this week, with top-ranked Georgia taking over the headline spot, along with Texas (No. 2), Florida (No. 6), Alabama (No. 7) and Ole Miss (No. 8) among the top 10. LSU (No. 13), Mississippi State (No. 16) and Tennessee (No. 18) round out the rest of the top-ranked teams.

Next up, Florida travels to Columbia to take on Missouri — who checks in at No. 29 in the re-rank — inside Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on ABC.
