Jamey Chadwell made his mark turning Coastal Carolina (1-2) into one of the most interesting programs outside of the power conferences, and then he left for Liberty (2-1). It isn't exactly Lane Kiffin going back to Ole Miss, but now he returns. It's been an odd start for both sides. Liberty has won its last two layup games, but it needed to work to get by Gardner-Webb, and then it blew away Ball State. Coastal Carolina is trying to get up to speed under new head coach Ryan Beard, but it lost both road games against West Virginia and Delaware in tough fights.

Liberty has gone 8-7 in the 15 meetings, with the last win to end the 2020 season in the Cure Bowl.

Coastal Carolina starts the Sun Belt season next week when Georgia Southern comes to Conway.

Liberty stays on the road, starting the Conference USA season at Delaware. Coastal Carolina lost last week to the Blue Hens 22-14.
