Alabama State QB Andrew Body dressed for Magic City Classic, but will he play?

BIRMINGHAM — In the biggest HBCU football game of the season there's been one question that's been on everyone's mind: Is Andrew Body going to play in the Magic City Classic ?

Alabama State football quarterback Andrew Body , who has missed the Hornets' last several games with a wrist injury, could be nearing a return as Alabama State prepares to face rival Alabama A&M on Saturday at Legion Field.

Body suffered the injury to his non-throwing wrist during Alabama State's Week 2 loss to Troy. He has not played since, leaving true freshman Aaron Frye to take over under center. Since Body's injury, Alabama State has gone 2-2 and are in a fight for its SWAC title lives.

Alabama State coach Eddie Robinson Jr. said Wednesday that Body remained restricted, but the team was hopeful he could return for the rivalry matchup.

Body took the field with the Hornets dressed in full pads for pregame warmups. His non-throwing wrist was still in wrapped in a cast. But he still was going throwing the ball and going through pregame routines.

Body's potential return would be a notable development for the Hornets. The redshirt senior was named the SWAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year after a standout 2025 campaign in which he threw for 1,770 yards and 20 touchdowns while rushing for 518 yards and four scores.

He also had a memorable performance in last year's Magic City Classic, accounting for six touchdowns in Alabama State's 56-13 victory over Alabama A&M .

With the Bulldogs preparing for the possibility of facing both quarterbacks, Body's status will be one of the biggest storylines heading into Saturday's rivalry game.
