Luka Doncic wasted little time asserting his dominance against the Toronto Raptors in Sunday's game for the Los Angeles Lakers . By halftime, Doncic appeared fully focused on securing the victory and showed little interest in entertaining Scottie Barnes' antics.
During the game, Barnes and Doncic got tangled up with each other during a play, leading to a tense exchange between the two. Barnes appeared to be trying to provoke the Slovenian star into reacting and potentially drawing a foul, particularly with Luka already dealing with foul trouble. However, Doncic refused to take the bait.
Ultimately, though, it was Doncic who had the last laugh as the Lakers bounced back from their disappointing loss to the Golden State Warriors with a 131-125 win over Toronto.
Against Scottie Barnes and the Toronto Raptors, Luka Doncic delivered one of the most remarkable individual performances against the franchise in recent memory.
The Slovenian superstar finished with 45 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, five steals, and one block. He was also highly efficient offensively, converting 12 of his 23 field-goal attempts, knocking down eight of 12 shots from beyond the arc, and making all 13 of his free throws.
According to Stathead, Doncic became the only player in NBA history to record such a stat line in a single game. The performance also marked the 71st 40-point game of his career, including the postseason.
Doncic's dominance was evident from the opening quarter, as he wasted little time taking control of the game. He poured in 16 points in the first 12 minutes, marking the fourth time this season he has scored at least 15 points in the opening quarter. Remarkably, the rest of the NBA has combined for only four such performances during the same span.
Having surrendered a significant advantage in its previous matchup against the Golden State Warriors, the Lakers desperately needed a convincing response, and Sunday's performance provided exactly that. The win also improved Los Angeles' record to 5-2 on the season.
