Dan Hurley does not appear to be planning to leave UConn anytime soon.

The UConn men's basketball coach has agreed to a new six-year contract that will keep him in Storrs through 2032, the school announced Friday . Hurley previously had four years remaining on the six-year, $50 million contract he signed in 2024 , so this is effectively a two-year extension.

According to the Associated Press , the new deal keeps Hurley's salary around $8 million, keeping him among the highest-paid coaches in college basketball. Kansas' Bill Self currently leads the group at $8.9 million .

It's little surprise that Hurley commands such pay, as it's hard to argue he hasn't been the most successful coach in the sport over the past five years. The Huskies won back-to-back titles in 2022-23 and 2023-24, and made a return trip to the national championship game earlier this year before losing to a historically talented Michigan team.

Hurley did meet with the Los Angeles Lakers about their open coaching job after winning that second title, but ultimately turned down a six-year, $70 million offer . Los Angeles went on to hire JJ Redick.

A statement from UConn athletic director David Benedict, via UConn's announcement:

"Dan has proven to be the very best coach in men's college basketball, and we're thrilled to keep him home at UConn for the next six years. His teams embody everything that UConn is about; resilience, competitive excellence and the pursuit of championships. In this chaotic era of college sports, it has never been more important to maintain continuity as we strive to compete at the highest level in everything we do."

This season's squad ranks fourth in the preseason AP Poll. UConn will open the season against Gardner-Webb on Monday.
