What was once—ostensibly at least—a 30-team race to the 2026 World Series title has been whittled down to eight.

All four matchups for the divisonal round are now set after the Atlanta Braves eliminted the Philadelphia Phillies with a 6-2 triumph Thursday night.

While there are arguments to be made on behalf of all eight teams—from the team-of-destiny underdog Chicago White Sox to the absurdly stacked Los Angeles Dodgers—oddsmakers understandably (and rightfully) see some separation in this field.

We'll dig into those differences with a latest look at the World Series odds, courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook , before spotlighting three teams from different tiers of the hierarchy.

The Favorite: Los Angeles Dodgers (+230)

The baseball world hasn't seen a run of three consecutive World Series wins since the Yankees went back-to-back-to-back in 1998-2000. The Dodgers have a chance to end that drought.

Their path to glory this time around could look a lot like the last two: following the lead of their stars and getting timely contributions from their support players. Shohei Ohtani is a game-breaker of the highest order (even if he isn't pitching), Andy Pages just announced his arrival as a star and the accolades attached to Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and Kyle Tucker are too numerous to mention.

As loaded as the lineup still looks, the rotation shines even brighter. Between Tarik Skubal, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell, L.A. boasts a ferocious foursome that is simply unrivaled across the league. The bullpen can be leaky, and the offensive stars haven't all shined as bright as normal, but with elite starting pitching like this, that may not even matter.

Despite securing the AL's top seed and the home-field advantage that comes along with it, Tampa sits just fourth among World Series-hopefuls.

Skepticism from the oddsmakers isn't totally unwarranted, though. The Rays aren't exactly an offensive powerhouse, and their rotation is without Shane McClanahan (forearm tightness).

That said, Tampa secured this spot with great bat-to-ball contact, chaos on the basepath, reliable defense and quality pitching from the rotation to the bullpen. The Rays have had a great season, so they have to look tempting with less-than-top-dollar odds.

The Dark Horse: San Diego Padres (+1000)

Consistently inconsistent, the Padres "earned" these odds with an up-down-season that saw them score just 41 more runs than their opponents. For context, the other three NL teams still standing all bettered their opponents by at least 116 runs.

Remember, though, the World Series doesn't always crown the campaign's best team. Sometimes a club catches fire down the stretch and rides the heat wave all the way to a title, and maybe the Padres are en route to doing exactly that. Including their Wild-Card sweep of the Chicago Cubs (which featured a 12-1 advantage in scoring), they've now won 19 of their last 22 games.

They have momentum-shifting stars in their lineup (Fernando Tatís Jr., Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill) and arguably the best closer in baseball (Mason Miller). If they can summon quantity and quality innings out of their rotation, they could be the latest team to prove that heating up at the right time sometimes delivers a championship parade.
