Now that the 2026 MLB regular season is over, the results for the first year of the ABS challenge system for all 30 teams are available.

Per full-season data compiled by TapToChallenge.com (h/t Associated Press ), the Cincinnati Reds were the most successful team with a net gain of 16.8 runs on challenges. The Cleveland Guardians were last at minus-13.4 net runs.

Interestingly, eight of the 12 playoff teams ranked in the bottom half of MLB and had negative net runs totals. The New York Yankees finished 16th at minus-2.1; the two-time defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers were 26th at minus-8.5.

One of the primary culprits for the Dodgers' low rating was Shohei Ohtani with 5.5 projected runs lost in defensive challenges, just behind Seiya Suzuki of the Chicago Cubs for worst among all batters.

Jose Altuve was the most successful hitter with 5.6 projected runs gained on challenges.

Despite Cleveland's overall lack of success at challenges, Patrick Bailey ranked second among all catchers with 5.1 projected runs prevented. William Contreras of the Milwaukee Brewers was first at 5.2.

Per Baseball Savant , fielders were much better at challenging calls with a 58 percent success rate on 5,792 attempts. Hitters were slightly below average at 49 percent on 4,765 challenges.

Overall, there were 10,557 challenges that led to 5,686 overturned calls (54 percent success rate).

The Yankees and New York Mets tied for the most challenges won among all batting teams with 96. The Atlanta Braves have both the fewest challenges won (50) and fewest total challenges (120) among batting teams.

Among fielding teams, the Minnesota Twins led MLB with 157 wins out of 269 challenges.

The challenge system has already made its presence felt in the postseason. Game 2 of the NL Wild Card series between the Philadelphia Phillies and Braves ended when Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto successfully challenged a pitch originally called a ball that wound up being strike three on Dominic Smith.
