First cannon firing drill for Dasara elephants held
First Dasara cannon firing drill in Mysuru acclimatises 13 elephants and 43 mounted police horses; 21 shots fired, more rehearsals set for Oct 9 and 12.
Mysuru: The first cannon firing drill to acclimatise the Dasara jumbos and Mounted Police horses to the deafening sound of cannon shots, which will be traditionally fired during the gun salute to Goddess Chamundeshwari during the Dasara procession, was held successfully at Dasara Exhibition Grounds on Wednesday.All the thirteen Dasara jumbos and 43 horses of Mounted Police took part in the cannon drill. From seven cannons 21 cannon shots were fired for three rounds during the event.During the drill, Dasara jumbos and horses remained calm and responded successfully without causing any disturbance. Initially, Dasara elephant Srirama was disturbed but adjusted later.
