Nandini milk price hike worries residents, stakeholders in Mysuru
Mysuru residents and businesses worry as Karnataka govt plans an Rs 8/litre Nandini milk hike; farmers seek full benefit and pending Rs 5 incentive.
Mysuru: State govt’s decision to raise Nandini milk prices by at least Rs 8 per litre has sparked concern among consumers and businesses, while milk producers have demanded that the entire benefit be transferred to them.Farmers also sought timely release of the Rs 5-per-litre incentive for milk supplied to Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF). They said milk production was a major livelihood amid crop losses after the district recorded a rainfall deficit of over 59% during the southwest monsoon.Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha Mysuru district unit president Hosur Kumar, who supplies about 20 litres of milk to KMF, said the incentive had not been released for five months.“The price hike is required. But our demand is that the entire amount must be transferred to the milk producers,” he said. “Currently, We get an average Rs 32 per litre of milk we supply to dairy,” he added.MYMUL managing director KN Suresh Naik said the union had 2,25,000 milk producers and collected an average of 10.5 lakh kilolitres of milk daily, with the highest collection reaching 11.5 lakh kilolitres. Farmers received Rs 32.2 per litre, he said.Hotel Owner’s Association president C Narayana Gowda said Nandini ghee prices had already risen twice in recent months. He feared the milk price increase would raise prices of curd, buttermilk, paneer and other byproducts, severely affecting hotels.“We are not against price hike. But it should be moderate. The state can compensate by increasing the incentive given to the milk producers,” he said, adding that the association would submit a memorandum to state govt. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Mysuru | Silver Rate in Mysuru | Bank Holidays in Mysuru | Public Holidays in MysuruStay updated with the latest Mysuru news.
