SHO, home guard staff held over corruption charges

Bathinda: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Kot Ishe Khan police station SHO Inspector Sunita Bawa and Punjab Home Guard employee Guravtar Singh in a corruption case. As per sources, the home guard was arrested by the vigilance bureau late Saturday while accepting Rs 50,000 as illegal gratification. during interrogation, he claimed Bawa was also part of the plot. As the inspector called Guravtar to her office to hand over the money, and vigilance sleuths arrested her as well.Earlier, one Rajwinder Singh had approached the vigilance bureau, stating the police had demanded Rs 1 lakh from him by threatening to implicate him ina NDPS Act case. The matter was later settled for Rs 80,000. He recorded the conversation with the home guard on his mobile phone and handed it over to a vigilance inspector, who asked the complainant to go ahead to hand over the bribe money and prepared a plan to arrest the police officials.Vigilance Bureau Ferozepur Range SSP Jagatpreet Singh said that acting on a complaint, the VB has arrested Inspector Sunita Bawa and home guard Guravtar Singh in the presence of govt witnesses.
