Live updates: Trump officially rolls back fuel economy standards; Senate sets up college sports bill vote

The Trump administration on Monday morning announced the official rollback of fuel economy standards , saying the Biden administration “went far beyond the requirements mandated by Congress” to help the electric vehicle push.

“These new Standards will take the waste out of building cars in America,” Trump wrote in a social media post over the weekend.

The Senate returns for its final week before the midterm elections, and it has two major priorities: the Protect College Sports Act and Ratepayer Protection bill. A final vote is expected on the former later Monday.

The Supreme Court kicks off its new term with its first private meeting of the justices, known by court watchers as the “long conference.” They’ll consider which of a long list of cases to take up.

Trump is expected to make an announcement at 2 p.m. EDT. The president will also attend policy meetings and sit down for an interview later in the day.
