It’s Tuesday and Election Day. Go vote! Then come back to read breaking updates from The Hill — and we’re going all night long .
Programming note : We’re Joshua Feldstein and Claire Leibowitz, filling in for Cate today. Please send us your tips, comments and story ideas to jfeldstein@thehill.com and cleibowitz@thehill.com .
Tuesday is The Hill’s Super Bowl, national championship, Eras Tour, New York City Marathon — whatever you want to call it — and it’s honestly hard to encapsulate it all in a newsletter.
Let’s start with a few of the races we’re watching closely…
Killer matchups in the Keystone State: Pennsylvania will be one of the closest states to watch in today’s House elections, with four battleground districts projected to possibly flip from Republican to Democrat.
GOP Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick , Ryan Mackenzie , Rob Bresnahan and Scott Perry are all seeing their numbers slip in nonpartisan handicappers Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ) and Cook Political Report polling.
Perry, a close ally to President Trump , is facing off against former Lancaster-based news anchor Janelle Stelson (D) in Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District. DDHQ currently gives Stelson a 71 percent chance to flip the seat.
Trump held tele-rallies for Perry and Mackenzie, who represents the 7th Congressional District, but has not backed the 1st Congressional District’s Fitzpatrick, who has often split from the president.
DDHQ gives Fitzpatrick a 55 percent chance to hold on to the seat against challenger Bob Harvie (D).
Iowa-2 looks like the one to watch: A little over a month ago, it didn’t look like GOP candidate Joe Mitchell would lose the GOP’s seat in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District, but polls have suggested a tight race and a chance for Democrat Lindsay James to snag the seat.
Mitchell and James are vying to succeed Rep. Ashley Hinson (R), who is currently running in the state’s Senate race.
Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R), in the state’s 1st District, and Zach Nunn in the 3rd District are both facing tough reelection races.
Tough reelection test in New York : Incumbent GOP Rep. Mike Lawler, who represents New York’s 17th Congressional District, will not have it easy against Democratic challenger Cait Conley in a race that appears to be slipping away from the Republican lawmaker.
DDHQ currently gives Conley a 61 percent chance to flip the seat, compared to Lawler’s 39 percent.
Conley, a retired Army combat veteran, has campaigned on lowering healthcare costs and working to put restrictions on energy rate increases.
One of the first to watch : Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District will be one of the first to be decided on Tuesday night and features a tight matchup between Democrat Zach Dembo and Republican Ralph Alvarado.
The seat was opened as Rep. Andy Barr (R) made a run for governor. Even if Dembo doesn’t win the seat, a close race could forecast how the night will go for the Democratic Party across the U.S.
Not always sunny in the Sunshine State : Florida could see Democrats gain and lose ground on Tuesday night in the state’s competitive 9th, 14th and 25th districts.
In the 9th Congressional District, incumbent Rep. Darren Soto (D) is facing an uphill climb against Republican challenger Dan Green .
Democratic Reps. Kathy Castor and Jared Moskowitz face tough tests.
Drama in Michigan: In an interview with The Hill’s broadcasting partner, NewsNation, on Tuesday morning, Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens (D) said she has no regrets about endorsing former GOP Rep. Mike Rogers in the state’s Senate race.
Stevens was seemingly set to finally campaign with Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed this weekend, but shocked her party by endorsing Rogers instead, after being uninvited from the campaign stop.
DDHQ still gives El-Sayed a 75 percent chance to succeed retiring Sen. Gary Peters (D).
Collins’s last stand? Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) has represented the Pine Tree State for 30 years, faced perhaps the toughest re-election race yet against Democratic candidate Troy Jackson , who has maintained a slight edge in polls.
Maine’s Senate race has been a roller coaster — with progressive candidate Graham Platner being forced to drop out in July over sexual assault allegations.
Collins has pushed herself away from Trump on tariffs and the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, but it might not be enough to survive a potential blue wave.
Welcome to the rodeo : No Democrat has won a Senate seat in Texas since 1988, but progressive candidate James Talarico is favored to do just that.
He goes up against Attorney General Ken Paxton (R), who has been swarmed by controversy over securities fraud charges, impeachment in the Texas House and infidelity allegations.
Elon Musk has spent almost $160 million to Paxton’s campaign, in what is likely to be the most expensive non-presidential race in history.
The tipping state: Much rests on Ohio, where Sen. Jon Husted (R) is trying to hold off former Sen. Sherrod Brown (D).
Brown has stayed ahead in polls but couldn’t pull away. Trump’s closing case for Husted focused largely on his athletic physique.
Whichever party takes Ohio has a much more likely path to 51, and with polls closing at 7:30, it may not take too long see which way the wind is blowing.
Honorable mention: Alaska and the alleged decoy candidate drama. Does Marshall survive in Kansas? Graham in South Carolina?
Acton up: The Ohio gubernatorial race has been a must-watch this election cycle, especially after Republican Vivek Ramaswamy aired in ad that featured his Democratic opponent Amy Acton’s estranged mother, who called her a “liar.”
DDHQ currently gives Acton a 63 percent chance of winning. She spoke to reporters after casting her ballot on Tuesday. She called her opponent a “danger to Ohio.”
Could Iowa flip blue?: Iowa has not had a Democratic governor since Chet Culver won the mansion in 2006.
But Democratic candidate Rob Sand is favored to win over his GOP opponent Zach Lahn. DDHQ says the Democrat has a 71 percent chance of flipping the seat, currently held by Kim Reynolds (R), to Lahn’s 29 percent.
Georgia’s go for governor : Billionaire health care executive Rick Jackson, a Republican, is facing off against Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms. If she wins, she would be Georgia’s first female and first Black governor.
She would also be the first Democrat elected governor since Roy Barnes in 1998.
DDHQ gives Lance Bottoms a 61 percent chance of taking the seat.
Trump announced on Tuesday morning that he reached a deal with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that will end the U.S.’s aid to Israel, according to The Hill’s Julia Manchester.
The president will cut off $4 billion in aid to the Middle Eastern ally because of what Trump called a bad “talking point.”
“They’re fine with it,” Trump said during an interview on “Fox & Friends.” “They’ve become a very successful country. They don’t need it, and we won’t be paying anymore.”
Interesting timing : Israel’s relationship with the U.S. has been a topic of debate in highly contested Senate and House races across the country, and the timing of Trump’s announcement didn’t seem accidental.
In his Tuesday morning interview, the president brough up the Michigan Senate race between Rogers and El-Sayed, which has circled around the U.S.’s support for Israel.
Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said the announcement showed how badly Republicans are polling on the issue.
🗳️ Ballot scanners in Westchester County, N.Y., stopped accepting votes on Tuesday due to an issue with paper ballots. “Westchester voters can still safely fill out and turn in their ballots at their polling locations,” New York Attorney General Letitia James said. “Your votes will count.” (Nostalgic writer’s note: Claire voted in her first election in Westchester, where she grew up, back in 2020).
🪖 OpenAI has hired former Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to serve as a senior counselor for national security modernization, the company announced Monday. He will advise the AI firm on how the technology can be used to boost national and cyber security.
🏛️ First lady Melania Trump will host representatives from Russia and Ukraine in the White House. “This event represents an extraordinary moment in American history,” a press release says.
