Trump weighed removing all press from White House: Report

President Trump has reportedly mulled whether to move the entire White House press corps from the building to another nearby location.

Trump has weighed the idea on multiple occasions during both terms, The Wall Street Journal reported, and he brought the idea up again as recently as within the last month as his frustration has grown with the media coverage he is receiving.

Some administration officials warned the president against the move , according to the Journal, which was told by a White House official that Trump had no imminent plans to remove press from the building.

The report comes just days after Trump barred three top news outlets — CNN, MS NOW and Politico — from the White House over their coverage of him.

The outlets sued the administration over the move on Monday, and the TV pool typically covering the president boycotted coverage the same day over the ban.

Trump’s move has been widely condemned by press freedom groups, elected Democrats and even some conservative commentators.

Under Trump, the White House has shifted the way the press operates while covering the president, making changes to the briefing room and scaling back the number of wire services traveling with the president.

The president last year also banned The Associated Press from certain White House spaces over its refusal to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America,” a move the wire service sued over and won .

Trump has long railed against mainstream media coverage of his administration, most recently the Iran war and issues relating to the economy, key points of emphasis for voters ahead of November’s midterm elections.
