Live updates: Trump attends Texas-Tennessee football game in Knoxville; US, China to cut tariffs on $30 billion worth of goods

President Trump will attend the University of Texas vs. University of Tennessee football game in Knoxville at noon on Saturday — an appearance coming ahead of senators’ last chance to pass the Protect College Sports Act before recessing into a lame-duck period.

Trump will fly to Knoxville Saturday morning to watch the Texas Longhorns, ranked number one in the AP Top 25 , face off against the Tennessee Volunteers, ranked 14th.

He is not expected to make any appearances on sports networks covering the game, as his fellow Republican, Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas), did earlier this month — appearing on ESPN’s College Gameday to tout legislation.

It is not yet clear whether television news broadcasters will cover Trump’s travels to and from the game, as the president barred CNN from reporters on Air Force One and taking its turn as the trips designated pooler — a rotating group of journalists who cover the president when space is limited, sharing their information with other networks.

The White House has not yet named a replacement for CNN, who — along with MS NOW and Politico — have been locked in a legal battle with Trump after he attempted to ban them from his official residence.

Meanwhile, the Senate is preparing for its final week in session before a long recess will extend beyond election day in November. While some GOP candidates attempt to distance themselves from Trump’s policies after his approval rating hit a record low, Republicans in the Senate are preparing to make haste in passing legislation while they still hold a majority.

Following Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Washington, D.C., it was announced that the U.S. and China agreed to cut tariffs on $30 billion worth of tariffs imported by one another, set up a channel for AI-related incidents and strengthen military crisis communications.

The move comes after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced Wednesday that Washington and Beijing would extend their broader trade truce by two months, from Nov. 10 to Jan. 10, for a larger negotiation window.
