Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-Pa.) slammed his fellow Pennsylvania Democratic colleague Sen. John Fetterman on Thursday, calling him a “lazy trust fund baby” following reports that Fetterman has been neglecting his duties as a senator.
“John Fetterman is a disgrace,” the congressman said in a post on social platform X . “Our state deserves better than a lazy trust fund baby who is too lazy to do the job.” Fetterman has said that his parents financially supported him into his 40s.
The statement was sparked by a Wall Street Journal report that alleged the senator avoided meeting with three disabled service members but opted to do an interview with Fox News on Israel and the war in Iran.
He also reportedly attempted to dodge a meeting with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which was concerned about Medicaid funding cuts in last year’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
At the time, Fetterman received backlash from Boyle for saying that the act’s long voting process caused him to miss an “entire trip to the beach.”
“I will do whatever it takes, stay up for 48 straight hours, 72 straight hours, do whatever it takes to block this bill from becoming law,” Boyle said at the time . “And that should be the attitude, frankly, of every Democratic member of the House and Senate.”
The report noted that for the past year, Fetterman attended 26 of the 31 full hearings for his assigned committees but did not speak in 20 of them, which sparked outrage from other Pennsylvania Democrats.
“There is a lot I could say about this report of John Fetterman’s pathetic behavior as a Senator,” Rep. Chris Deluzio (D-Pa.) said Thursday on X . “But between the laziness, disrespect, and willingness to carry water for a foreign government, it shows us something we already know: this man has no sense of duty.”
“He is not up for the high office he was elected to — and we in Pennsylvania will do something about it in 2028,” he added.
Democratic National Committee Vice Chair and Pennsylvania state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta (D) told NewsNation on Sunday that Fetterman “is somebody who has spent the past few years not doing his job. He is a part-time senator, full-time commentator on Fox News.”
In a separate Friday statement , Kenyatta said that “2028 can’t come soon enough” and that Fetterman “barely showed up as LG and is constantly MIA as our Senator.”
