Live updates: TV networks pull out of White House pool as banned outlets sue; Trump heads to UN

Major TV networks that rotate covering the president for wider media distribution say they will not do so moving forward after President Trump banned CNN, Politico and MS NOW from the White House last week.

Trump announced the ban Friday, and reporters from the organizations were denied entry to the complex and had their credentials confiscated over the weekend.

“No administration should restrict a news organization because it objects to its reporting,” Fox News Media, ABC News, CBS News, NBC News and CNN said in a rare joint statement Monday.

The three banned outlets filed a lawsuit on First Amendment grounds Monday.

Meanwhile, the president is set to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York City this week. The discussion is likely to focus on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the Russia-Ukraine war and growing anxiety around artificial intelligence.

Almost 130 heads of state will gather, excluding Chinese President Xi Jinping, who will visit Washington on Thursday for separate meetings with Trump.

The president will meet with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) and French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the conference later Monday. In an emailed statement to The Hill, Mamdani’s press office said that “the meeting will focus on issues affecting New York City and New Yorkers .”
