Ohio gubernatorial nominee Amy Acton (D) said her opponent Vivek Ramaswamy’s (R) “crossed the line” and called him “a danger” to the state of Ohio.

“I think he is out of touch. He’s out for himself. And I’ve always felt he was a danger to our state,” Acton said while addressing reporters and voters after casting her ballot in Ohio on Tuesday.

The state’s gubernatorial race took an unexpected turn when Ramaswamy’s campaign produced an attack ad last month featuring Acton’s estranged mother, who called her daughter a “liar” and urged Ohioans to vote against her. It was initially unclear who was behind the video, but Ramaswamy’s team later confirmed ownership and said it spent $4 million to promote it. Last week, the ad stopped airing .

“I do know and believe that my opponent crossed the line,” Acton said Tuesday.

The ad received bipartisan criticism , including from Ohio’s current Republican governor, Mike DeWine. However, some defended it , including President Trump and Vice President Vance.

Following the controversial ad, election forecaster Sabato’s Crystal Ball moved its rating of the Ohio gubernatorial race from “toss-up” to “leans Democratic.”

“Internally, we have been giving a slight edge to Acton and [Sherrod] Brown in our mental ledger, but we also have to continually remind ourselves that Ohio is a clearly red-leaning state,” Sabato’s Crystal Ball said.

Nonpartisan election forecaster Decision Desk HQ also leans in favor of Acton, giving her a 63 percent chance of winning the race.

“I am very hopeful for Ohio’s future,” Acton said Tuesday. “All of us are longing for this chaotic hate-filled rhetoric to end. All of us are longing for public servants again … good people on both sides of the aisle.”
