Meet the wealthiest person in your state, according to latest Forbes report

(NEXSTAR) — While you may be bogged down by the high costs of groceries and gas, the wealthy have never been wealthier, according to the latest report from Forbes .

The 400 wealthiest Americans are now worth a record $8 trillion, Forbes reported Tuesday. That’s up from the $6.6 trillion they were worth in last year’s Forbes 400 .

To make the annual list at all, you need to have a net worth of $4.4 billion, also an increase over last year. Forbes said that benchmark left 590 billionaires off the list.

To be among the top 10, you needed far, far more. Nebraska’s Warren Buffett ranked as No. 10 overall on the Forbes 400 list for 2026 with an estimated net worth of $144 billion.

Unsurprisingly, Elon Musk, who was briefly the world’s first trillionaire , again ranked at No. 1 overall with an estimated net worth of $908 billion, according to Forbes.

Twelve states – Alabama, Alaska, Delaware, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, and West Virginia – were not represented on this year’s Forbes 400.

In total, 62 women ranked within the Forbes 400, the same as last year. The wealthiest among them remains Alice Walton, the only daughter of Walmart founder Sam Walton. With an estimated net worth of $118 billion, she ranks as the third-wealthiest Texan and the 13th wealthiest American.

Walton falls well behind Texas’ wealthiest resident, Musk, keeping her off the table above. You will, however, find Kentucky’s Tamara Gustavson, Maryland’s Annette Lerner and her family, Massachusetts’ Abigail Johnson, Nevada’s Miriam Adelson and her family, Virginia’s Jacqueline Mars, and Wisconsin’s Diane Hendricks.

Three states – California, Georgia and Ohio – have a new wealthiest resident. In California, Google’s Larry Page replaced Oracle’s Larry Ellison, who moved to Florida. Home Depot’s Arthur Blank beat out the children of Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-fil-A, to rank as the wealthiest resident of Georgia. Denise York and her family, who own the San Francisco 49ers, edged out Les Wexner and his family, who are responsible for Victoria’s Secret and Bath & Body Works, in Ohio.

President Donald Trump again made the list, but with a slight drop in his net worth to an estimated $7 billion, down from $7.3 billion last year . The dip, while small, was enough to drop him from No. 201 to No. 245.
