Senators began to file out of Washington Thursday for a multiweek recess while sitting on a collection of outstanding legislation — including the unfinished farm bill, FISA authorization, annual defense authorization bill and 12 appropriations bills.
Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) is leaving it all for the lame-duck Congress after November’s midterms. The Senate formally adjourned late Wednesday night after voting on party lines to approve the President Trump’s Labor secretary nominee, Keith Sonderling — who has been filling the seat in an interim capacity for months.
Meanwhile, Trump is set to depart for Denton, Texas, to tour the Peterbilt Motors factory and deliver remarks about manufacturing and his economic agenda. He will then attend a rally in Durant, Okla., to urge voters to cast their ballots for Republicans.
