Trump promises NBC’s Welker will be reported to FCC ‘for rebuke or punishment’

President Trump said Sunday that NBC News’s “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker will be reported to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) after she reportedly said that Trump-endorsed candidates have had mixed results this election cycle.

“Kristen Welker, the Unpopular ‘Hostess’ of the once great Meet the Press, now considered Meet the Fake Press, just stated that Donald Trump has ‘mixed results’ on his Endorsements of Candidates, when the recent WINS of Darline Graham and Mike Mazzei, stand at 100% for the U.S. Senate, and 98% for the U.S. House, recently and over the longterm,” the president wrote on Truth Social .

“How can anyone be allowed to say this, working for freely given Public Airwaves? Results are attached. Because of this purposeful inaccuracy, she will be reported to the FCC for rebuke or punishment.”

CNN’s Brian Stelter reported on social media that Welker talked about Trump’s “mixed” endorsement results during a preshow live shot on WRC-TV, NBC’s Washington, D.C., affiliate.

Trump went on to write in his post that he hopes FCC Chair Brendan Carr and the other commissioners “will take this Threat to our Country very seriously,” referring to the media’s coverage of his endorsement record.

“Kristen is one of the best in the business and we stand by her,” an NBC News spokesperson said in a statement to The Hill.

The president last Sunday boasted his endorsements are “ stronger than ever .” Two candidates he endorsed — Sen. Darline Graham (R-S.C.) and Oklahoma gubernatorial GOP nominee Mike Mazzei — went on to win their primaries days later.

But Trump has also seen some of his endorsed candidates lose this year. Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) lost his reelection bid to TV anchor Ryan Elijah in his district’s Republican primary, while Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) lost his own primary to former Tennessee Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher. Michigan’s Amir Hassan also fell short in his run for a House seat after receiving Trump’s endorsement.

Political commentator Bill O’Reilly recently opined that an endorsement from the president “doesn’t have the cachet that it did” previously, citing the Iran war.

Trump has had run-ins with Welker before. In June, he abruptly ended an in-person interview with her after the two discussed his unfounded claim that the California gubernatorial primary was “rigged.” He also ripped the “Meet the Press” host last year when she questioned then-Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) about the Signal chat leak of Pentagon attack plans.

Trump’s most recent rant over Welker’s coverage comes after Disney and ABC last week sued the FCC , arguing that the Trump administration is attempting to censor journalists by urging the agency to conduct an early review of ABC’s broadcasting licenses.

Last summer, Trump threatened both NBC and ABC in social media posts, suggesting they be fined or taken off the air due to their polling and coverage of his administration.
