Multiple states including Massachusetts, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and New York have reported technical issues at the polls on Election Day.
Issues were reported with election machines in the city of New Bedford, Mass., but were eventually resolved, according to local news station WBSM . The city spokesperson, Jack Thuon, said there were issues reported in four precincts Tuesday morning.
“An internal wire in the machines at these locations was found to be physically interfering with the port on the machine where ballots are fed,” Thuon said in the report, adding that the size of the ballot may have contributed to the issue.
The issue was resolved and the machine returned to its normal functioning after election officials adjusted the position of the wires.
During a press conference Tuesday, Kansas Elections Director Bryan Caskey said voting was disrupted for about 90 minutes at a location in Leavenworth County. The disruption happened after the location ran out of ballots around 8 a.m., according to information obtained by NewsNation.
About a hundred ballots were delivered to the location instead of a thousand, due to a clerical error. The issue has since been resolved, but Caskey said voters were turned away.
The North Carolina State Board of Elections approved a voting extension after reported technical issues at the Tabor City Courthouse in Columbus County and shorter extensions in Gates, Lenoir, Wilson and Hertford counties.
The extensions will delay posting of statewide results by 45 minutes, according to a post on social platform X by the State Board of Elections.
Voting hours were extended to 8:15 p.m. in Columbus County, 8 p.m. in Lenoir County, 7:55 p.m. in Hertford County and 7:45 p.m. in Wilson County.
Machine setup issues delayed the opening of polling locations at three different precincts in Pennsylvania Tuesday morning, according to the Chester County, Pa., website .
A petition for a 30-minute extension of voting hours at these precincts was granted; the precincts will be open to voters until 8:30 p.m. All other precincts in the county will close at 8 p.m.
In New York, voting machines across polling sites in Westchester County were facing issues Tuesday after ballot scanners stopped accepting votes. The issues started when polls opened at 6 a.m.
The county’s election officials instructed voters to continue filling out the papers, which will be placed in designated orange emergency ballot bags and will be secured and counted later.
