Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) says Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) did Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed a favor with her last-minute decision to endorse former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) over the Democrat.

“I think that Haley did Abdul a favor,” Crockett said during an appearance on an episode of “ The Breakfast Club .” She added that the events surrounding Stevens will give El-Sayed “a boost” in the elections.

“I think that Haley is done with politics or she’s decided she wants to be a Republican going forward,” the Democratic representative added. “We will see what happens when we get back into Congress next week about how the caucus decides to deal with this situation.”

Stevens on Sunday endorsed Rogers following an appearance at a Detroit church event. Her decision came after a feud with El-Sayed in the preceding days of the midterm elections, that stemmed from a political advertisement tying Israel to high grocery prices in the U.S.

Stevens released a statement saying El-Sayed did not condemn the ad forcefully enough.

El-Sayed and Stevens were initially scheduled to make a joint appearance at an event Sunday in Detroit alongside Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), but El-Sayed asked her to stay away from his campaign events and disinvited her. On Sunday, Stevens made an appearance with Rogers instead.

Stevens’s decision to reverse her support for El-Sayed was met with widespread backlash from Democrats .

El-Sayed brushed off Stevens’s switch, telling reporters , “At the end of the day, I actually don’t think about Haley Stevens.”

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a remark similar to Crockett’s about Stevens’s decision, saying during an appearance on CNN, “I don‘t think it‘s going to have much impact. In fact, if it has any impact, I think it will end up helping Abdul.”

Michigan’s Senate race has grown competitive in recent days, with nonpartisan election forecaster Decision Desk HQ saying El-Sayed is “likely to win” the race.

Nonpartisan political handicapper Cook Political Report also shifted its rating of the race from toss-up to “lean Democrat.”
