Watch live: Jack Smith testifies before Senate panel on Trump prosecutions

Former special counsel Jack Smith will face the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday morning as he seeks to defend his prosecutions of President Trump.

Smith is expected to stand by the charges he brought against Trump over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election — including his perceived role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol — and his handling of classified documents after his first term ended.

Both cases were dismissed after Trump won the 2024 election.

Smith is also likely to be met with scrutiny from Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who chairs the committee, over his investigation’s collection of GOP lawmakers’ phone records.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. EDT.
