Live updates: Jack Smith faces Senate scrutiny; Trump to unveil federal AI tool

Former special counsel Jack Smith will testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, his second appearance before Congress as the panel probes his investigation into President Trump.

Smith led a team of Justice Department investigators and ultimately determined he would bring charges against Trump in the Mar-a-Lago documents case and another related to the president’s actions on Jan. 6, 2021. He stressed in prepared remarks, obtained by The Hill, that it was the evidence tied to the president’s own actions that prompted him to bring charges .

Meanwhile, the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) summit Tuesday in Washington will attract Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Vice President Vance and former boxing heavyweight Mike Tyson, among other speakers.

Trump on Tuesday morning will make an announcement about America.gov, an AI platform for federal services. The president’s stance on AI has been less cautious than lawmakers as he pushes forth the idea of “super intelligence” (SI), a rebranded name for the rapidly evolving technology.

He hosted a dinner at the White House with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Sunday and boasted about SI to Chinese President Xi Jinping last week.
