Jon Stewart rips Trump’s media ban: ‘Have you tried presidenting better?’

Jon Stewart is railing against President Trump’s White House ban on three media organizations, saying the “authoritarian crackdown” won’t bring down fuel prices or improve the job he’s doing as commander in chief.

Trump said on Friday in a Truth Social post that he was banning MS NOW, CNN and Politico from the White House “as a result of their constant ‘reporting’ FAKE NEWS!”

The trio of news outlets said in a Monday joint statement that they are filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration “to protect our First Amendment rights and defend the principle that the government does not decide what the press reports or publishes.”

On Monday’s “The Daily Show,” Stewart ripped Trump for the move.

“Have you tried presidenting better?” Stewart asked in his monologue on the Comedy Central show.

“You could ban the press, or you could be a better f—ing president,” he said.

“I mean, give the press something to work with,” Stewart continued, before highlighting the rising gas prices across the country amid the U.S. war in Iran.

“Oh, here’s a positive story: I never thought my car could take $140 worth of gas in such a small tank. I had no idea,” he quipped.

“And not for nothing, have we ever had a president just flat out in the Oval Office come out against the Constitution?” Stewart said.

“What kind of a sick country doesn’t allow unlimited warrantless search and seizure? I mean, that’s not the North Korea I grew up in,” Stewart said as he imitated Trump.

“Are you talking about my authoritarian crackdown?” Stewart, continuing to mock the president, told the audience.

“He gives no f—s. He doesn’t even respect us enough to pretend he’s bound by our Constitution,” the 63-year-old comedian said.

Stewart then brought in “Daily Show” correspondent Desi Lydic, who in the satirical sketch said she was reporting from the Oval Office after disguising herself as a golden cherub and blending into the embellishments adorning the doorway in the White House room.

“What’s been the effect of this media ban so far?” Stewart asked Lydic.

“Well, it’s been surprising and immediate: Since banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico, gas prices have plummeted to $1.98,” Lydic cracked.

“Are you saying the ban on the press actually worked?” Stewart, feigning shock, replied.

“Yeah, it turns out Trump was absolutely right,” Lydic said, adding, “CNN and MS NOW were the only reason everything was bad.”
