GE Appliance Park Gets $1B Louisville Expansion Plan

GE Appliances will invest $1B in GE Appliance Park, its 750-acre, 6M SF manufacturing campus and global headquarters in Louisville.

More than $400M will convert Building 5 into a high-output dryer plant, moving production from Mexico to Kentucky by late 2027.

The program also includes $112M for Building 1 and $490M for Building 2, with the campus expected to support 4,700 jobs.

GE Appliances is launching a $1B expansion and modernization program at its Louisville manufacturing headquarters. Commercial Search's report on the GE Appliance Park investment says the 750-acre campus spans more than 6M SF across five facilities. The program will expand production in three buildings and is expected to make the site the largest US home-appliance assembly plant by fabrication output, employment, and footprint.

More than $400M will transform Building 5 into a high-output dryer manufacturing facility. GE Appliances plans to relocate dryer production from Mexico to Louisville as part of a broader reshoring effort. Operations are expected to begin in late 2027.

The Building 5 modernization is expected to take nine to 12 months. Refrigeration assembly there will end early next year during the conversion. GE Appliances will continue refrigerator production at plants in Decatur, Alabama, and Selmer, Tennessee.

The investment is being carried out with IUE-CWA, the union representing employees at the campus. GE Appliances says the combined program will expand production across three buildings while keeping the Louisville site at the center of its US manufacturing network.

Laundry Production Expands Across the Campus

GE Appliances is also investing about $112M in Building 1, which produces top-load washers and front-load dryers. The work will add equipment and redesign existing production lines.

Building 2 is receiving $490M under an investment first announced in 2025. The company plans to convert that property into an advanced laundry-fabrication facility using robotics and automated material-handling systems. Operations are scheduled to begin in 2027.

Together, the Building 1 and Building 2 projects broaden the campus's laundry capacity beyond the new dryer line in Building 5. The upgrades combine new production equipment with automation and changes to material flow.
