Lam Research plans Rs 10,000cr silicon plant in India, R&D expansion

Nasdaq-listed Lam Research plans to invest around Rs 10,000 crore to set up a silicon component manufacturing facility in India and expand its advanced R&D operations. Lam Research is a global supplier of wafer fabrication equipment and services to the semiconductor industry.The company said the manufacturing facility will support a vertically integrated process spanning silicon ingot production and processing for advanced semiconductor technologies and leading-edge nodes. The expansion of its R&D operations builds on Lam’s India Center for Engineering, which supports the company’s global customers in areas including design, testing, validation and next-generation technology development.“India represents an important part of Lam’s global innovation and growth strategy,” said Rangesh Raghavan, corporate vice-president and managing director of Lam Research India. “Our continuing expansion in India reflects our confidence in the country’s talent, growing semiconductor ecosystem and supportive policy environment. We remain committed to collaborating with the government, academia, suppliers, startups and other stakeholders to help accelerate semiconductor innovation that benefits the industry globally.”Lam said it plans to make further investments over the next several years. The new manufacturing facility and expanded R&D operations are expected to create opportunities for partnerships with local suppliers. Lam works with Indian companies for specialised materials, precision components, gases, chemicals, metrology and manufacturing services that support the semiconductor industry.Lam said the investment will also help strengthen the country’s talent base and contribute to building a globally competitive semiconductor workforce.Lam has partnered with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) to expand access to semiconductor manufacturing education, with a goal of training up to 60,000 students over the next several years.Lam Research employs nearly 20,000 people globally and reported revenue of $20.6 billion in calendar 2025.Get the latest Business News and Live updates.
