The Alphabet-owned company was previously only giving rides to people on its interest list. Now it will be open to anyone who downloads the Waymo app. The robotaxi operator says its also testing out rides to Nashville International Airport, and hopes to begin offering service soon. And coming later this year, Waymo will be an option in the Lyft app in Nashville. [Link: Now everyone can ride in Nashville | https://waymo.com/blog/shorts/nashville-june2026/ | Waymo]
Chromebooks solved a real need 15 years ago. I’m not sure Google’s new Googlebook solves anything.

[Image: The replica isn’t street legal, so you’re actually buying a 5,500-pound showpiece. https://platform.theverge.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/chorus/uploads/chorus_asset/file/25705359/batman_tumbler.jpg?quality=90&strip=all] Warner Bros. has officially sanctioned Action Vehicle Engineering to build 10 replicas of the Batmobile from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, according to Hypebeast. The Tumblers are only available by invite and while fully-functional (minus the jet engine) they won’t be street legal. So you’ll also want to factor in the cost of a massive display case.
Rivian teased four mystery vehicles ahead of its planned investor day. With a new investment from VW, it could actually have the funding to make these projects a reality.

[Link: It’s All But Official: The June Oven is Cooked | https://thespoon.tech/its-all-but-official-the-june-oven-is-cooked/ | The Spoon] The Spoon reports that the excellent but expensive June Oven may finally be finished. While owner Weber hasn’t made an official announcement, apparently a representative at CES said there are “no plans for a new model.” You’ve not been able to buy a new June Oven for a year now (although you can still buy accessories). But if you did spend $600 to $1,500 on what is still the best smart oven I’ve tested, the good news is Weber said it’ll still get software updates.
Weber has acquired June, the smart oven company, which it previously collaborated with on a connected grilling accessory. June will continue to develop smart ovens.
And it only has one button

Insta360’s Luna Ultra and the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P added telephoto lenses to baby steadycams this year. The Ultra’s zoom originally offered 3x optical, 6x lossless crop, or 12x with reduction in detail, but a firmware update now gives you an AI-enhanced 15x. Or make it 4.5x optical and up to 22.5x zoom by adding the new $50 “Ultra Telephoto Lens,” too: [Image: The new 1.5x “ultra telephoto” blocks your main lens in favor of extra zoom. https://platform.theverge.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/09/luna-ultra-zoom.webp?quality=90&strip=all]
We tried out the new Googlebooks, which are essentially Chromebooks evolved with an Android elemental stone. They’re made by Dell, Lenovo, HP, Acer, and Asus (not Google), but all have the new Googlebook OS, heavy integration with Android phones and Gemini, and a built-in “Glowbar.” Laptop reviewer Antonio G. Di Benedetto went hands-on with the new devices, and reports back to guest host David Imel. Watch | Listen | Get ad-free [Media: https://youtu.be/3gXb_o7m-3U]
As I mention in my Googlebook hands-on piece, Google’s new laptop OS has clever ideas about how an Android-based laptop and an Android phone interact. It’s worth checking out in motion, like in our short video that went up today. We’ll of course be testing and reviewing Googlebooks to see if they actually have the juice. In the meantime, watch me hold a microphone like a goof. [Media: https://www.instagram.com/verge/reel/DdjYZomk1md/?hl=en]
According to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, the long-rumored Apple home hub with a screen is now being positioned as an AI hub for the home, working in tandem with your personal AI hub, the iPhone. He writes: > “It will bring together all of your connected-device controls, video calls, intercom capabilities and media, while giving you access to Apple services and apps. It also will feature a new operating system built around Siri AI.” I shared my ideas for what I want to see Apple do with a truly “intelligent home hub” in this piece, but in the meantime I’ll make do with Apple just shipping something here.
