(NEXSTAR) – Thousands of bottles of acetaminophen sold on Amazon have been recalled over reports of discolored tablets, according to a recall notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The recalls, voluntarily issued last month but only recently included in the FDA’s enforcement report, impact nearly 113,000 bottles of 500-milligram Extra Strength Acetaminophen caplets available through Amazon.

There are three separate alerts on the FDA’s site for the following products:

14,640 200-count bottles with lot number ACD125040A and an expiration date of 09/30/2027

90,456 500-count bottles with multiple lot numbers and expiration dates: ACD124036A and ACD124030A, 09/30/2027 ACD124042A, 10/31/2027 ACD124048B, 11/30/2027 ACD125010A, 02/29/2028

7,836 1,000-count bottles with lot number ACD124048A and expiration date 11/30/2027

According to the alerts, customers reported discolored pills, prompting the recall.

“Amazon is voluntarily recalling specific lots of Amazon Basic Care Extra Strength Pain Relief acetaminophen 500mg caplets due to reports of tablet discoloration in the affected lots,” a spokesperson told Nexstar. “This is a voluntary recall initiated in coordination with the manufacturer, Aurohealth, and the FDA.”

If you have an impacted bottle, you likely have already been contacted. There have been no reported adverse impacts related to the acetaminophen included in the recall.

Acetaminophen is considered an analgesic and antipyretic, meaning it can relieve pain and reduce fevers, MedlinePlus explains , meaning it not only alters how your body senses pain but also helps to cool it.

Last year, Aurobindo issued a similar recall for 325-milligram Acetaminophen Tablets sold on Amazon due to discoloration of the pills. A notice from Aurobindo said some consumers had noticed a “brown surface on tablets.”

In 2022, the company recalled more than 160,000 bottles of acetaminophen — about 137,300 units of Walgreens brand acetaminophen and roughly 25,660 units of Kroger brand arthritis pain acetaminophen — due to issues with child-resistant packaging.
